With the continued expansion of our Chewy Vet Care clinics, we are looking for a full-time Georgia Veterinary Assistant III to join our Chewy Vet Care Practice Team. As clinical team member, you’ll work in a practice designed from the ground up by veterinarians, equipped with advanced equipment and purpose-built technology so that you can practice your best medicine and focus on patient and pet parent care. What You’ll Do:
Serve to support your practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, competent veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively with your peers and deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, utilizing integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given skill set.
Perform and assist with diagnostics (fecals, cytology, urinalysis, bloodwork)
Draw blood from common venipuncture sites
Operate and maintain in-house lab machines
Obtain and process pre-surgical diagnostics (ECG, bloodwork, etc.)
Lead anesthesia induction and provide advanced surgical monitoring and support
Operating room prep and assistance
Prepare surgical equipment and supplies, maintaining asepsis
Advanced dentistry - perform dental prophylaxis and take full-mouth dental x-rays
Place IV catheters, administer medications and fluids, and provide inpatient care
Calculate, prepare, and reconstitute medications; manage controlled substances
Maintain controlled substance logs and assist with inventory needs
Provide advanced patient and critical care (triage, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring)
Aid in resuscitation efforts
Obtain thorough patient histories and ensure complete SOAP documentation
Support veterinarians to ensure safe patient treatment in alignment with Chewy’s Standards of Care
Lead technician appointments and mentor others
PIMS administrative super-user; aid others
Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOCs)
Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs.
Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
What you’ll need:
Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Georgia Veterinary Assistant I, II and III.
2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel.
Physical job requirements:
Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
