Join AT&T and help shape the future of communications and technology that connect the world. We value innovators who seek to explore the unknown and challenge the status quo. Bring your bold ideas and fearless spirit to redefine connectivity and transform how people share stories and experiences. At AT&T, you won’t just imagine the future—you’ll build it.
As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, testing, and deployment of high-performance, scalable software applications. This hands-on engineering position requires strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a passion for delivering high-quality solutions. You will collaborate across teams to drive technical innovation, mentor junior engineers, and ensure adherence to best practices in software development and automation.
What You’ll Do
Lead end-to-end delivery of software solutions—from requirements and design, app tunning through build, test, release, and support
Partner with product, stakeholders, and architects to translate business needs into clear technical designs, interfaces, and estimates
Drive system and service architecture with a focus on scalability, security, reliability, and performance
Set and uphold engineering standards (clean code, TDD/unit testing, CI/CD, observability), and guide teams through code/design reviews
Build and enhance automated testing strategies (integration, end-to-end, regression) and ensure quality in fast-moving environments
Troubleshoot complex production issues across services, infrastructure, and dependencies; lead root-cause analysis and permanent fixes
Collaborate with DevOps/SRE and peer engineering teams to improve deployment, resilience, and operational excellence
Evaluate tools, frameworks, and processes; make pragmatic recommendations that improve developer productivity and customer outcomes
What You’ll Bring
8+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production-grade systems
Strong experience designing and building distributed services/APIs and integrating across complex systems
Proven ability to lead technical direction, influence across teams, and align stakeholders on solutions and tradeoffs
Hands-on expertise with modern engineering practices: unit testing/TDD, code reviews, CI/CD, and automated quality gates
Solid understanding of non-functional requirements: availability, latency, scalability, security, and maintainability
Experience operating software in production, including incident response, troubleshooting, and improving observability/monitoring
Proficiency with modern cloud-native tooling (e.g., Azure, Kubernetes, GitHub) and a strong grasp of DevOps concepts
Strong database fundamentals and data modeling experience (SQL and/or NoSQL)
Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
