Our Opportunity:  

Chewy is seeking a Maintenance Technician Lead for our Fulfillment Center in Reno, NV. This is an outstanding opportunity to showcase your expertise and leadership in maintaining the magnificent operations of a fast-paced, fulfillment environment. What you will do:   

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing automated material handling equipment to ensure optimal performance and maximum equipment availability. By applying preventive maintenance and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) processes, you will proactively address and swiftly resolve equipment breakdowns to keep operations running smoothly. You will collaborate closely with technicians, leadership, and Control Systems Engineers to optimize equipment performance within tight time constraints. Additionally, you will play a key role in conducting root cause analysis on equipment failures, directly supplying to the overall success and efficiency of the facility’s operations. 

Successful candidates will: 

  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks, including housekeeping, plumbing, metal fabrication, and carpentry, to support the operations of our fast-paced fulfillment center. 

  • Ensure all fulfillment center equipment is operating properly and maintain a safe working environment for all Team Members. 

  • Complete periodic and general maintenance tasks as assigned, adhering to schedules. 

  • Perform daily inspections of conveyor systems, shipping, and packing equipment areas to identify and address issues. 

  • Maintain accountability for assigned equipment and associated gear, targeting to eliminate loss, damage, and defects. 

  • Complete repair orders and maintain accurate parts usage records. 

  • Solve mechanical and electrical issues by visually inspecting, testing, and evaluating components, equipment, and circuits. 

  • Adhere to company procedures and safety standards. 

  • Lead a team of up to 10 hourly facilities associates, providing guidance and support. 

  • Achieve all facilities goals and objectives to ensure operational success. 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for P1/P2 customer concerns, addressing urgent maintenance issues. 

  • Mentor, train, and develop teammates to support career progression and skill development. 

  • Share standard methodologies across shifts and within the network to ensure operational efficiency and consistency. 

  • Develop a positive team dynamic that encourages feedback, and adapts to the constantly evolving business environment while maintaining focus on customer experience. 

  • Apply the site CMMS system (Fiix) to optimize preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) execution, providing insights to improve overall performance. 

What You Will Need:

  • At least 36 months of previous facility maintenance experience, including mechanics, construction, engineering, aviation, or transportation repair. 

  • Electrical experience or understanding: Ability to demonstrate knowledge of:  

  • 24V AC/DC control circuits 

  • 120V power & control circuits 

  • 277V-480V power circuits 

  • Experience using appropriate tools and maintenance equipment. 

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently, and work at elevations up to 35 feet. 

  • Manual dexterity, coordination, and balance to work at ground level and at heights. 

  • Interest in math, electricity, shop mechanics, electric motors, and appliances. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills. 

  • Understanding of potential exposure to high voltage current, welding equipment, and vehicle/equipment lubricants and solvents. 

  • Ability to work nights and weekends when required. 

  • Experience with fire systems and fire alarm electronic devices. 

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and plumbing schematics. 

  • Experience with conveyor mechanical systems (belts, drives, tracking valves). 

  • Experience with VFD motor controllers, motor starters, and control cabinets. 

  • PLC knowledge: Experience with troubleshooting input/outputs or some programming. 

  • HVAC: Sophisticated knowledge or experience. 

  • Ability to communicate preventative maintenance and repair opportunities, as well as bring up issues outside normal hours to ensure system performance. 

  • Ability to make sound decisions and work well under pressure. 

  • Recognize problems and make repairs before breakdowns occur. 

  • Strong proactive problem-solving and mechanical proficiency skills. 

  • Willingness and ability to train others. 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • College degree or vocational training in Mechanical, Electrical, or related fields, or 3-5 years of hands-on experience in industrial maintenance. 

  • Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls. 

  • Proficiency in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. 

  • Knowledge of PLCs. 

  • Experience with HVAC systems, fire alarms, and high-voltage electrical systems. 

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. 

  • Familiarity with CMMS systems (such as Fiix) for supervising maintenance activities. 

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to train and mentor technicians. 

  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with changing priorities.

The hourly range for this role is $31.73 - $47.59.
