They will act as the chief architect for the workflow landscape, governing how approval cycles, notifications, and automated process steps are deployed across the enterprise. This role is responsible for the transition from legacy manual processes to a high-velocity, "Insight-to-Action" environment using the S/4HANA Flexible Workflow framework and SAP Build Process Automation. The Workflow Lead ensures that all automated governance adheres to federal internal controls, segregation of duties (SoD), and statutory audit requirements. The SAP S/4HANA Workflow Lead is responsible for leading process strategy, technical governance, and cross-functional enablement.
Key responsibilities:

- Establish Workflow Design Standards, creating a unified "Agent Determination" strategy (e.g., using Responsibility Management or Organizational Management) to ensure consistency across functional workstreams
- Direct "Clean Core" Automation Strategy, governing the use of SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) and SAP Build Process Automation for complex, cross-application workflows to keep the S/4HANA core pristine
- Enforce Federal Compliance, ensuring every workflow design captures a tamper-proof audit trail of "Who, What, and When" to satisfy GAO and FISMA requirements
- Architect the Unified Inbox Strategy, governing the configuration of SAP Fiori "My Inbox" and the SAP Task Center to provide executives with a single, mobile-ready point of entry for all pending actions
- Optimize Performance and Scalability, monitoring workflow queues (SWWL) and runtime behavior to ensure that automated processes do not create system bottlenecks during peak federal reporting periods
- Lead BRFplus Governance, overseeing the design of complex decision tables and business rules that drive dynamic routing, ensuring they are maintainable and high-performing
- Direct Integration Efforts, overseeing how workflows interact with external systems, document management systems (DMS), and email/notification gateways
- Manage and Mentor the Workflow Team, including Specialists and Developers, fostering expertise in modern low-code/no-code tools and advanced ABAP-OO workflow extensions
- Strategic Workstream Collaboration, serving as the bridge between Functional Leads and Technical Architects to ensure "Fit-to-Standard" workflows are maximized and custom code is minimized
- Drive Process Analytics, utilizing the Workflow Dashboard and SAP Process Insights to identify process friction and recommend "continuous improvement" automation strategies
Here’s what you need:
- 7+ years of experience in SAP Workflow Architecture, with a track record of leading workflow workstreams for large-scale S/4HANA implementations
- Expertise in S/4HANA Flexible Workflow and SAP Build Process Automation, including cloud-based workflow extensions
- Experience in BRFplus, SAP Organizational Management (OM), and Fiori UX integration
Nice to have:
- Knowledge of SAP Activate, specifically managing the "Explore" and "Realize" phases for technical automation workstreams
- Proficiency in advanced troubleshooting (SWW_CONT, SWEL) and the ability to guide developers in BAdI-based workflow extensions
- Experience with Federal Approval Hierarchies, ensuring workflows accurately reflect the federal "Chain of Command" and delegated spending authorities
- Familiarity with Federal Audit Trails (FIAR), ensuring system logs meet the highest levels of evidentiary standards
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Eligibility requirements:
- US Citizen (no dual citizenship)
- Must be eligible to obtain a government Secret Clearance
