SPU provides a fun and family-friendly work environment that supports a work life balance, including:<ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt;"><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Hybrid work schedule opportunities (As Appropriate)</li></ul>Supervises staff performing or serves as project engineer and Engineer of Record on the most technically complex, visible and/or controversial projects or programs involving several design specialties including: Drinking water pipelines, conveyance pipes, valving, pump stations, ER-DIP, cathodic protection, water system appurtenances, site restoration, ADA ramp designs, and general utility infrastructure projects.<ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt;"><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Leads the Drinking Water Design and Engineering Group. </li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Supervises activities of a design team in the preparation of preliminary and long range plans, schedules, estimates, budgets, detailed final construction plans, specifications, and agreements. Oversees project progress from design through construction.</li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Monitors the work of consultants and construction contractors to ensure compliance with contract provisions and scope of work.</li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Supervises the preparation of a variety of reports, correspondence and official documents.</li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.</li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Supervises the growth and development of staff.</li><li style="margin-left: 24px;">Ensure high quality design products from staff.</li></ul> Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology or other combinations of education and/or experience which provides preparation to complete professional Civil Engineering work.Experience: Requires six years professional civil engineering experience, including two years supervisory experience <div style="color: inherit; font-style: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px !important;"><div tabindex="0" style=" color:inherit; margin-bottom: 0px; font-weight: 600 !important;">License, Certification and Other Requirements</div><ul style="padding-left: 2rem; margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 3pt;"><li>Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.</li><li>Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.</li></ul></div> Desired Qualifications: You will be most successful in this role if you possess one or more of thefollowing:• Results and value driven.• Experience and a desire to lead projects, initiatives, and people.• Excellent people and communication skills – and a developed sense of emotional intelligence.• Successful experience in mentoring and developing staff.• Thrives in a fast-paced environment.• Committed to public service and fostering trust in government• Highly organized. This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Starting January 2, 2025, City employees will have the option to work remotely two days per week.
