Job Description:
Our Opportunity
Chewy is on a mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents, everywhere. From first browse to lifelong dedication, we build experiences that make caring for pets easier, smarter, and more delightful.
On our Product Design & Research team, we bring that mission to life (and yes, we really love our pets). We’re a collaborative, curious, and detail-focused group of creators, researchers, and builders. We believe great work isn’t just about appearance. It’s about how trust is developed, dedication is earned, and customers feel genuinely cared for.
We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer – Retail Experience to help build the future of Chewy’s primary e-commerce experiences. This role will work across high-impact areas like search, browse, promotions, loyalty, cart and checkout. It will tackle complex problems at scale and help define how millions of customers experience Chewy every day.
You would be an individual contributor role who thrives in ambiguity, influences strategy through craft and clarity, and improves how building operates across teams.
What You’ll Do
Shape strategy through design. Translate retail and loyalty strategy into clear, compelling design direction that aligns teams and influences product decisions at scale.
Design high-impact e-commerce experiences. Lead design across complex customer journeys—search, browse, cart, checkout, promotions, and loyalty—balancing customer needs, business goals, and technical feasibility.
Think in systems. Create flexible, scalable UX frameworks that improve quality, speed, and consistency across Chewy’s retail ecosystem.
Solve the hardest problems. Take on ambiguous, high-stakes challenges and bring clarity through excellent judgment, customer insight, and build excellence.
Improve the standard. Establish new standards for craft, execution, and operational excellence that elevate the broader design practice.
Communicate with impact. Clearly articulate design decisions and tradeoffs to Team Members, including senior leaders and executives.
Basic Qualifications
7+ years working as a product designer, UX designer, interaction designer, information architect, or in a similar role.
4+ years of experience leading large-scale initiatives and mentoring designers in your area of expertise.
A strong portfolio showcasing high-quality digital products that delivered significant value to customers and the business.
Deep experience designing large-scale e-commerce platforms, including browse, search, cart, checkout, and promotions.
Mastery of core design skills including interaction design, information architecture, and visual/UI design.
Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex ideas across audiences and levels.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate the customer and business impact of design decisions beyond your immediate product area.
Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
Ability to travel as needed and work from one of Chewy’s local offices.
Preferred Qualifications
Proven experience working on loyalty programs, subscriptions, or retention-focused experiences at scale.
Strong understanding of customer lifecycle design, from acquisition through long-term engagement and loyalty.
Experience influencing product strategy through customer insights, experimentation, and systems thinking.
Familiarity with building and evolving design systems in complex product ecosystems.
Experience partnering closely with analytics and experimentation teams to measure impact and inform iteration.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
You’ll design for millions of pet parents and help shape experiences they rely on every day.
You’ll work on high-visibility, high-impact retail problems with real business and customer outcomes.
You’ll join a team that values craft, curiosity, kindness, and collaboration.
And yes—pets are very much part of the culture.
